Russia plans to create its own national operating system (OS), said Ilya Massukh, Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Mass Communications of Russia, as reported by newspaper Vedomosti.The government is hoping to launch the first version of a “national operating system” for its computers as early as next year.The operating system, for use on the computer systems of government agencies and state-run companies, will be 90 percent based on the open-source Linux operating system.

TrueCrypt 7.0  has been released. Among the new features are hardware-accelerated AES, support for devices that use sector sizes other than 512 bytes, ability to configure a volume to be automatically mounted whenever its host device gets connected to the computer, favorites organizer, and more.

Main Features:

WINE 1.2 has been released, the new version including (finally!) 64bit application support.

This release represents two years of development effort and over 23,000 changes. The main highlights are the support for 64-bit applications, and the new graphics based on the Tango standard.

New build of popullar Ubuntu based Linux distro Linux Mint has been released.

New name Gloria brings new features and improvements. Base is build from Ubuntu 9.04, Jaunty Jackalope, Linux 2.6.28, Gnome 2.26 and X Server 7.4.

Most changes has been made in mintMenu module, installation and update module and of course what Linux user likes – new artwork.
