Google integrated in the developer versions of Chrome for Windows and Mac a new way to view PDFs in the browser.

Google outlines the advantages of this integrated approach as the following:

• PDF files will render as seamlessly as HTML web pages, and basic interactions will be no different than the same interactions with web pages (for example, zooming and searching will work as users expect). PDF rendering quality is still a work in progress, and we will improve it substantially before releasing it to the beta and stable channels.
• To further protect users, PDF functionality will be contained within the security “sandbox” Chrome uses for web page rendering.
• Users will automatically receive the latest version of Chrome’s PDF support; they won’t have to worry about manually updating any plug-ins or programs.

Microsoft launched the free version of Office Web Apps after nine months of allowing select users to test the Technical Preview. The service is initially available via Windows Live SkyDrive (integration with Hotmail is not yet ready) at office.live.com to users in the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Ireland, with support for English, Spanish (USA), and French (Canada) languages. Why another release candidate? Actually it was planned to release the final version today.
But because of a bug in the Windows 7 firewall with connection losses when using secure FTP,
a lot of code in the built-in FTP client had to be changed. Therefore another release candidate has become necessary.
